The little black dress, a fragrance, a brand – who isn’t familiar with the revolutionary creations of the entrepreneur once known as Gabrielle Chasnel? Coming from a humble background and facing the worst possible starting conditions for a woman around 1900, the French fashion designer – who went on to become world-famous as Coco Chanel – built an empire that has lost none of its fascination to this day. 

But how did this impressive career – the meteoric rise of this dazzling personality – come about? 

The illustrated talk by Dr Anke Barbara Schwarze, a journalist and historian who aims to inspire people with stories for the sake of history, promises a glimpse behind the glamorous façade, at the woman behind the legend. 

Accompanying her, concert accordionist Andrea Knefelkamp-West will enhance the atmosphere of these turbulent episodes from her life with expressive melodies, primarily from France. The musician continually surprises her audience with a repertoire that strays from the conventional paths of her instrument and, all the more so, astounds like a kaleidoscope of moments ranging from the imposing to the delicate, from the melancholic to the radiant. 

“Meet & Greet”: Following the approximately 75-minute event, there will be an opportunity to chat with the pair in a relaxed atmosphere.

Plants and plant parts that we mainly harvest in October. Get to know medicinal plants and edible wild herbs along the way, identify them and learn interesting facts about how to use them at home for your well-being, health or enjoyment.

Different herbs and medicinal plants sprout throughout the year - different parts of the plant such as buds, leaves, flowers, seeds or roots are collected at different times of the year.

Being able to clearly recognise the plants on a hike all year round is an exciting experience for all ages.

What you can expect:

Herbs: recognising, identifying, smelling, tasting and feeling edible wild plants and medicinal herbs.

Inspiring hike: we discover well-known and new plants along the way and learn about their wonderful properties. You will be amazed and perceive nature with different eyes afterwards.

Sharing: I experience time and again that participants are deeply touched by the plants and are happy to share their joy with others (shared joy is double the joy).

Fabulous mushrooms Together we discover the fascinating realm of mushrooms. On a hike with mushroom coach and mushroom consultant Andrea Hans, we will marvel at the variety of shapes and colours and discover how different species differ and how to recognise them. We will immerse ourselves in the forest ecosystem and find out what role mushrooms play in this system. What should you bear in mind when looking for mushrooms and what about their toxicity? In this environmental education event for beginners, we explore the way of life of mushrooms. This is not a collecting event.

In cooperation with Lippe-Kanu-Tours from Dorsten, the city agency is once again offering canoe adventure tours on the Lippe during the spring and summer season. Participants experience the winding Lippe from a boat's perspective and enjoy a unique nature experience. The Lippe meanders about 10 kilometres through the nature reserve between Datteln-Ahsen and Haltern-Flaesheim and offers unique insights into the beautiful winding river landscape and the natural banks - a river with many faces. The tours start at 11 a.m. at the Haltern-Flaesheim meeting point and last a total of approx. 4 hours. The participant price including bus transfer is 36 euros for adults, children up to 17 years pay 24 euros. The participant price includes 3 and/or 4-seater canoes, life jackets, a waterproof rucksack, a tour guide, a bus transfer and boat transport.

Barbara Ruscher explores for you what it’s like to stop drinking alcohol (“I just want a hobby all to myself”), tests the erotic appeal of hot-air fryers and leaf blowers, manages to find plenty of positives even in the menopause, and raps convincingly about e-bikes (“21 gears, a cracking battery in the frame”). Because nobody else does that, after all. Look forward to brilliant entertainment – Comedy Deluxe! With stand-up and smash-hit songs, it’s satirical, biting and, above all, one thing: unbelievably funny!

With his unique voice and touching lyrics, Michael Schulte wants to inspire the audience in Haltern am See in November. The Bambi award winner and ESC fourth-placed will be playing an exclusive live concert with his band. The singer and songwriter is a proven crowd-puller everywhere, as he is now one of Germany's top pop artists. The Bambi award-winner's career began back in the noughties, when he regularly performed cover versions on YouTube. His videos were clicked over 100 million times. In 2012, the artist, who lives in the far north of Germany, came third in the TV show "The Voice of Germany". His fame increased again immensely when he represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 and took fourth place with the song "You Let Me Walk Alone". Further hits such as "Back to the Start", "All I Need", "Keep Me Up", "For a Second", "Here Goes Nothing", "Remember Me" and "With You" followed, as did winning the Newcomer Bambi.
