Ruhr Tourismus GmbH
Proven cooperation in the region
The main task of Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG) is the central coordination and implementation of tourism product development, marketing and sales in the Ruhr metropolis. Haltern am See, a town on the border between the Ruhr region and Münsterland, benefits particularly from this cooperation, as it is characterized by its location between urban culture and rural idyll.
A particular focus of the RTG is the development of an independent tourism profile for the Ruhr metropolis. The cooperative approach, in which many partners from the region - including Haltern am See - work together under a common thematic umbrella, promotes a strong regional identity and ensures consistent, attractive communication to the outside world.
RTG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR), which illustrates its close connection to regional development and support for towns like Haltern am See.
The Roman Lippe Route is an approximately 295-kilometre-long themed cycle route that runs along the River Lippe and follows in the footsteps of the Romans in Westphalia. The cycle path connects important Roman sites and sights along the river, which was an important border and traffic route for the Romans.
The route not only follows the course of the old Lippe border, but also leads to important Roman excavation sites, such as the Limes sites, and gives cyclists an insight into the region's Roman past. Along the way, cyclists can learn more about Roman settlement and the influence of the Romans on the development of the region.
The Roman-Lippe Route is particularly attractive for anyone interested in history, archaeology and nature. It offers a varied mix of historical sites and beautiful countryside, from the rural areas of the Münsterland to the urban regions of the Ruhr area. The well-signposted cycle route is suitable for both shorter excursions and longer tours.

The Roman-Lippe Route offers special water and Roman loops in addition to the main route, each of which focuses on a particular theme. These shorter circular tours along the cycle route invite you to delve even deeper into Roman history or the region's water-rich landscape.
The water loops lead cyclists along picturesque stretches of riverbank and bodies of water that played an important role for the Romans. Here, nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike can enjoy the idyllic river landscapes and learn more about the historical use of water in Roman times.
The Roman loops focus on particularly important Roman sites and archaeological excavations. These tours provide a more in-depth look at the history of Roman settlement, from ancient storage sites to historic fortifications.
Both loops are ideal as day tours, as they offer exciting experiences and impressive sights within a manageable distance. The Roman-Lippe Route can therefore be enjoyed in varied stages, where both nature and history can be experienced in a very special way.
