Haltern cycle paths

Welcome to the bike-friendly lakeside town!

You are invited to explore the cycle route network (H 1 - H 6) and get to know our beautiful and scenically varied town, which has already received several awards as a "cycle-friendly town". The circular tours have different lengths, lead in different directions in the city area and can be "experienced" individually by each cyclist.

In addition to wonderful views, the routes offer both challenges and leisurely routes and are suitable for experienced and less experienced cyclists. They are integrated into the NRW cycle route network (red and white signage) and are also signposted in both directions. Access is possible from any location. Look out for the H-route inserts in the red and white signposting.

The description of the tours in the individual maps starts from the cycle station; the direction is merely a recommendation.

St Nicholas market with ice skating rink Haltern am See
Haltern on the lake

Traditionally, the St Nicholas market in Haltern am See begins on the 1st weekend in Advent. Mayor Andreas Stegemann will open the St. Nicholas Market on 28 November 2025 at 6 pm on the market square.

The hut magic on the market square invites you to visit. Here, guests can enjoy the cosy atmosphere whatever the weather, browse the stalls and relax with a hot drink while listening to Christmas music. The Stadtwerke Haltern am See adventure skating rink invites you to take a few quick laps and if you want to do a bit of gift shopping, you're sure to find what you're looking for among the arts and crafts on offer.

Once again, a curtain of lights covering almost the entire square creates a contemplative atmosphere - and does so in an economical way thanks to energy-efficient LEDs.

On the Advent Saturdays, the lucky draw by "Haltern am See. Does good." will take place.

Traditionally, St. Nicholas crosses the lake on 6 December at 6 pm and makes his way to the town centre in a small procession.

Your breast health: it's in your hands
A lecture with tactile instructions for self-examination
Old Town Hall

Every 8th woman in Germany will develop breast cancer in the course of her life. The chances of recovery increase if the disease is detected as early as possible. How can I protect myself against breast cancer? What risk factors can I influence? In addition to the information, she demonstrates how to perform a palpation examination in line with the motto "It's in your own hands!" But who do I turn to if I feel something? What examinations are then available? Dr Zehren, Chief Physician at the Clinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Head Physician at the Münsterland Breast Centre, will also answer these questions in detail.
