Cycling network

Radverkehrsnetz © Stadt Haltern am See

The cycling network of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia covers approx. 29,000 km. Part of this huge network is of course also in Haltern am See. The distinctive red and white signage shows cyclists the way through the town and into the region in a destination and route-oriented manner.

If you want to cycle along cycle and themed routes, simply follow the appropriate insert in the signage. Each route has its own logo, which is inserted below the network signage. This makes it easy to set off directly from any starting point on the network without a map or navigation device. But what else do the signs say?

The red and white signposting consists of large arrow signposts and smaller intermediate signposts.

The arrow signposts are located at junctions and forks in the network. They indicate the long-distance destination in the top line and the next short-distance destination below. The distance is given in kilometers.

There is also information about the destination (e.g. train station, city center) and the route (leisure route, incline/decline). The route can be selected according to personal preferences using the respective information: Would you prefer to take the shortest route or a winding path through the countryside to your destination?

The intermediate signposts are significantly reduced. They merely confirm that you are still on the cycle network and indicate whether and where you need to turn by giving directions.

If a sign is missing or dirty, the defects can be reported via the QR code on the signpost or at www.radverkehrsnetz.nrw.de. In this way, you can actively support the maintenance of the NRW cycle network.

Alternatively, you can also use the defect reporter for Haltern am See at www.haltern-am-see.de . Damage to cycle paths can also be reported here.
