Pilgrimages to the Annaberg
Ancient place of worship since Roman times
There has been evidence of pilgrimages on the Annaberg since 1556.
Throughout the year, especially in the summer months from May to October, pilgrims come alone or in groups to make the pilgrimage to the Annaberg, to St. Anne, whose feast day is celebrated on July 26.
The pilgrimage chapel consists of a small, two-bay hall building - built in 1674 - and a larger, single-nave extension - built in 1791 - with a round-arched west portal.
Inside the chapel is the 15th century image of St. Anne and the relief of a winged altar with depictions of the Annunciation, Visitation and Nativity, also from the 15th century.
The chapel on Annaberg, accessible from Dorstener Straße or Weseler Straße, can be visited daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
A Way of the Cross leads from the chapel square through the Annabergerwald forest to the Lourdes Grotto. The stations are carved in stone and were created by the artist Krautwald.
