Haltern May walk
May 1st is party time - the biggest "Maigang" far and wide!
Every year on May 1st, Haltern am See is in a state of emergency! The mostly young participants parade around the reservoir with their self-built handcarts and meet up in the Westuferpark at the end of the event for an exuberant party.
The imaginative and lovingly prepared handcarts are usually a technical masterpiece, as the techno music resounds far beyond their location. Many students and friends come back to their home town for this event to celebrate together.
The event is usually also a challenge for the security forces and the police.
