Hiking paradise Haltern am See
Haltern am See is located in the heart of the Hohe Mark Nature Park and offers ideal hiking and walking opportunities in the forests of the Hohe Mark and Haard, the Westruper and Holtwicker Heide and around the idyllic lake landscape.
The marked hiking trails are up to 38 km long.
The marked network of 51 circular hiking trails is 220 km long. There are numerous parking lots for hikers at the starting points.

In addition to the A and X trails, there is also the Hohe Mark Steig long-distance hiking trail, which leads through Haltern am See as the main route and also as a branch off the main route, namely as a water route .
The excellent Hohe Mark Steig long-distance hiking trail leads over 150 km right through the Hohe Mark Nature Park, from Wesel to Olfen. It passes through a variety of fascinating landscapes: dense forests, dreamy moors and picturesque floodplain and lake landscapes. This is exactly where you reach Haltern am See.
The water route as a branch-off from the main route is one of the most beautiful tours, from Haltern's lake landscape to the floodplain landscape in Olfen or vice versa.
In recent years, the Ruhr Regional Association has somewhat thinned out the network of paths in the Haard and signposted new circular routes in the Haard. These tours are also highly recommended!
